my first review part 2
althrough personally i like SDF Macross a lot, i feel some parts could have done a bit better such as i felt some of the villans should look a bit more dynamic with a bit more impact (althrough i have no complain about the movie since some characters have been complete redone). i took notice when i watched and realised Mr Haruhiko Mikimoto is involved with character design of Mobile Suit Gundam 0080: War In The Pocket and Top O Nerae (which known as Gunbuster or ???????!). i felt Mr Haruhiko Mikimoto have improved a lot at portraying character's feeling, the characters looked a lot smoother looking than what he done 7 years ago in SDF Macross.

Mobile Suit Gundam 0080: War In The Pocket or just Gundam 0080 for short is released as a 6 episodes Original Video Animation (OVA). it is really a gundam version of the movie Hope and Glory and Empire of the Sun. Gundam 0080 descried a kid called Al who is a big fan of zeon mobile suit MS-06f Zaku and how he meet zeon soldier Barnie and how he learn how harsh a war can be through Barnie's death.
the series have sucessfully portrayed the down side of war, sorrow, and the feeling of nothing can be done to change the war. the characters' appearance and expression fits prefectly with their personality and role of the series. althrough the trend of SDF Macross character design is going in the same direction (a design with pretty looking guys and girls) you can also see a lot of change in Mr Haruhiko Mikimoto's design from SDF Macross, moving from a heroism shojo manga style pretty looking war hero and heroine design to a more mature design that truely captures character's feelings and emotions, which i felt was a huge leap forward.
Mr Haruhiko Mikimoto is also heavily involved in the illustration of gundam novels which includes, Mobile Suit Gundam Char Counter Attack: Beltorchika's Children, Mobile Suit Gundam F91 and Mobile Suit Gundam: Hathaway's Flash.

Front Cover of Mobile Suit Gundam: Ecole du Ciel vol 1
in his latest work Mobile Suit Gundam: Ecole du Ciel, which descride a girl struggles to come to grips with her identity as she enrolls in a Federation school, as previously she was a Zeon, his style have gone to a popular early 90s shojo manga style with a lot of tone and detail, in what i think work great with the series.

my first review part 1
the first person i am going to write about is Mr Haruhiko Mikimoto or 美樹本晴彦 in kanji. he is the origial character designer of the famous Macross (or Robotech in America and Europe) series.

SDF Macrss
he made his debut with Super Dimensional Fortress Macross or SDF Macross for short. my opinion of the style of his character design is apart from the bad guys and some hot-blooded characters (such as Roy Focker and Capt. Bruno J. Gloval in SDF Macross) are very lovable and they all seem to have a kind and gentle eye sight, characters like Hikaru Ichijyo, Roy Focker, Misa Hayase and Lynn Minmay have become instant fans favorite.

Lynn Minmay
especially Lynn Minmay is one of the biggest if not the biggest virtual idol ever created in the anime industry history along with "super stars" like Chun Li from Street Fighter series, Madoka Ayukawa from Kimagure Orange Road, and Sakura Shinguji from Sakura Taisen.
the release of the movie SDF Macross Do You Remember Love, boosted her popularity more than ever, the scene of she singing to stop the war between humen and the Zentradi (40ft tall male giants)had become a lengendary scene in anime history and the theme song Do You Remember Love (愛・おぼえていますか) by Mari Iijima(Lynn Minmay's voice actor) had become lengendary along with the scene.
but i think where Mr Haruhiko Mikimoto's talent really starts to shine is when he took on the characters design of Mobile Suit Gundam: 0080 War in a Pocket
note:
SDF Macross aired on TV in 1982. it was known for its attactive storyline and complex mechanical design ( its mechanical design Mr Kazutuka Miyatake and Kazumi Fujita are one of my many favorite mecha designers)
SDF Macross Do You Remember Love is released in 1984 as a condensed movie version of the TV series, althrough the storyline of the movie won't go into the TV series

a week into the course
it is a week into the course. i believe i am catching up very well, since i handed in enough work to match everyone else. anyway i believe my work can be fairly original from other people on the course, because i live in a completely different culture from everyone else.
first of all i come from hong kong, and japanese anime are boardcast there regularly . therefore i am deeply attracted into the culture of animes and mangas, especially the ones in the late 80s ( surprisingly i wasn't into stuff like power rangers and transformer) , hence most of the anime i have seen such as ultraman, mask rider, saint seiya and mazinger z and games i have played such as super robot taisen, won't have a chance of releasing here due some licence problem. even manga i read such as orange road, kotaro makaritoru and comic bomber will not have a future here because of mainly culture differences. so i won't be surprised that nobody here heard of any of them, but since this is going way off topic so i won't go too deep into this culture shock thing.
what i going write about is who influence my art work and ideas, and how do he/she do it.
