my online identity and experience part 3
continued from part 2
-----------------------------
Since most people have more than one blog or website, they hold a dual role or take part in more than one community. I will use my PSO:BB days again as a example, given that the player is allow to create more than one character, so that character can play a different in the team. For instance my main character also named FlameMaster usually plays a support role in the team with continuous barrage from my rifle and support magic, where as my other character which I can’t remember his/her name plays a berserker in the team, charging right in with swords and machine guns to kill as many things as possible. In extreme cases a person can create different personality on different forum and message board maybe under user name (even IPs).
Internet nowadays is pretty much like a virtual world, since a lot of things you could do in the real world could be done on the internet. Things like can shopping, chatting, video conversation and even running a business can be done on the internet. As the technology develops internet connection have be come cheaper and quicker, and the quality of video sharing have also improved, drawing people closer from all over the globe together in one community. For example http://www.2advanced.com/ is a flash showcase website that runs their business and portfolio, which also organized a community with real people running real business with real money. I highly recommend to everyone who read this blog to take a look at this site. BBC has also organized a lot website with virtual idols they have created such as Jamie Kane and many others. These sites are mainly aim at attracting teenager (mainly girls), it has an online game on the site which people can sign up and play, it also include other stuff such as site description and downloads. The game will lead them to the virtual community which is control by computer and since the game is like mails tag it normally should keep people playing for quite a few weeks.
I believe blogging has huge potential to be the main road for someone to express themselves on the internet, and as technology increase sound and video can be added the blog more easily and smoothly with more quality, a virtual self of a person can be formed on the internet. And I believe that day isn’t far away from us, although I wouldn’t like it to happen, because I don’t like leaking away too much information at least not on the internet where information can be spread all over the earth in matters of seconds. Personally I don’t like the idea of blogs because is too much like a dairy or a journal and I don’t like writing dairies or journals and yet I got a blog, it shows even I accept as true having a blog is very important, well at least in the creative industry it is.
